My research interests are in computer vision and machine intelligence, particularly with the goal of finding effective and efficient algorithms for visual intelligence. While I have delved into unconstrained face recognition in my Ph.D work, I have now moved on to other new areas such as facial micro-expression analysis, computational aesthetics and emotions in images, long-term video surveillance and a whole lot more.

I lead the Visual Processing (ViPr) Lab, where the Pattern Recognition and Analysis subgroup of the Center for Visual Computing (CVC) resides. I am also currently serving as the Smart Cities Research Theme lead in MMU, driving new initiatives into smart cities research.

Nov 2017 I'm co-organizing the inaugural Facial Micro-expression Grand Challenge (MEGC) Workshop at FG 2018 in May 2018. CFP and Challenge details TBA soon.

Sep 2017 2 papers on image aesthetics (1 oral, 1 poster) presented at ICIP 2017 in Beijing, China.
June 2017 I'm appointed Smart Cities Theme Lead @ MMU to coordinate and drive research relating to smart cities technologies, and to engage stakeholders and collaborators.
