My research interests span computer vision, pattern recognition in general, and the emerging fields of affective computing and computational aesthetics. I am currently working on a broad spectrum of visual computing tasks: activity recognition, long-term video surveillance, face recognition and facial attribute retrieval. Recently, I have also shifted attention to study the computability of highly subjective tasks such as facial micro-expression analysis, aesthetics and styles of photographs, and emotion from images.

I lead the Visual Processing Lab (ViPrLab), an organically-grown research lab with a passion for producing good research, highly synergistic in our efforts and outwardly collaborative. I strive to create the lab I wish I had in graduate school.

09/2018 2 papers accepted to VCIP 2018 in Taichung, Taiwan.
08/2018 I will be co-chairing Workshop on AI Aesthetics in Art and Media @ ACCV 2018 in Perth, Australia. I am also giving a Tutorial session @ ACCV 2018 on the state-of-the-art in facial micro-expression analysis. Details soon!
06/2018 Survey paper on facial micro-expression analysis published (open access) in Frontiers in Psychology (Scopus Q1).
I will be serving as TPC for a couple of ACM MM 2018 Workshops: 1st Workshop and Challenge on Comprehensive Video Understanding in the Wild, and Workshop on Audio-Visual Scene Understanding for Immersive Multimedia @ Seoul, Korea, and VCIP 2018 @ Taichung, Taiwan.
05/2018 I'm co-chairing the inaugural Facial Micro-expression Grand Challenge (MEGC) Workshop at FG 2018. More details here.
I will be starting my role as Visiting Research Fellow to Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in collaboration with Prof. Weiyao Lin under the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE). I will be on sabbatical leave from MMU until October 2018.
